![[notebook_volumes.png|400]] ## Project Description An everyday-carry DIY notebook designed to be cobbled by the user. With continuous use, disassembly, modification and reassembly, every part of the original notebook will be replaced. `echo "The Ship of Theseus"` > - Easily reorder and replace pages > - One-sided photo and scan-ability > - Up-cycled materials ![[theseus05.jpg|400]] | ![[theseus02.jpg\|200]] | ![[theseus03.jpg\|200]] | | --------------------------- | --------------------------- | |
![[theseus04.jpg\|200]] |
![[theseus06.jpg\|200]] | | ![[sketch_dev-02.jpg\|200]] | ![[sketch_dev-01.jpg\|200]] | | --------------------------- | ------------------------------- | | ![[sketch_dev-03.jpg\|200]] |
![[sketch_dev-04.jpg\|200]] | ## Basic Construction YouTube instructions: ==TODO== Exploded View: ==TODO== | Part | Units | Materials | Notes | | ---------- | ----- | ------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- | | Cover | 1 | letter paper
"golf" pencil
tape | ![[basic-cover-letter-v1.0.jpg\|200]] | | Signatures | 8 | letter paper | ![[basic-signature-letter-v1.0.jpg\|200]] | | Spine | 1 | 1/2" PVC or PEX A/B | ![[basic-spine-letter-v1.0.jpg\|200]] | | Binders | 8 | #19 rubber band | 3.5" x 1/16" | Theseus Notebooks Design files on [archive.org](https://archive.org/details/theseus-notebooks) - Design drawings: [basic-letter-v1.0.pdf](https://archive.org/download/theseus-notebooks/basic-letter-v1.0.pdf) - CAD files: [basic-letter-spine-v1.0.FCStd](https://archive.org/download/theseus-notebooks/basic-letter-spine-v1.0.FCstd) - 3d-print geometry: [basic-letter-spine-v1.0.stl](https://archive.org/download/theseus-notebooks/basic-letter-spine-v1.0.stl) ## Future Goals Development efforts will focus on 3D-printed spines and molds. In particular, testing paper-pulp molding techniques and material properties. In this way, a previous note could ascend from **disposable** to a "backbone" that holds everything together. This process would pose an interesting question: What if each part of the [Ship of Theseus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Theseus) were first cast into molds, then ground into pulp, and finally cast back into the molds? Once assembled, would that functionally compromised ship be more of a “Ship of Theseus” than one whose parts had been replaced with new, functional components? Other development directions: - Notebook spines made of brass, porcelain, molded wood-pulp - Signature templates - A4 paper [ISO 216](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_standard_paper_sizes) basic notebook - Small notebook (1/16th paper) - Large notebook variations (tabloid/A3 paper) - Calendaring, D&D, et cetera - Accessories: ==TODO== - Bespoke Obsidian utility for scanning, page sorting, tagging - Training / Manufacturing Aids: One-handed bulk folding board ## License This documentation supports an application for [OSHWA](https://oshwa.org/) Open Source Hardware certification. **Open-source hardware**: The design files in this project are licensed under the [CERN-OHL-S-2.0](https://cern-ohl.web.cern.ch/) license.
